2017 Anambra Guber: Ezeemo emerges lone candidate from old Aguata block

Stakeholders across political parties yesterday unanimously picked Mr Godwin Ezeemo as the preferred candidate for old Aguata block for the 2017 Governorship election in Anambra State.

Chief Godwin Ezeemo who is the leader of Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) in Anambra State, emerged as the preferred candidate from old Aguata as he defeated Dr Andy Ubah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr Barth Nwibe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and others with a great margin from an opinion poll and mock voting conducted by the stakeholders.

Addressing journalists at the end of the stakeholders meeting which was held at Jessie Hote,l Awka, Chukwudi Eze said the contest is now open to all candidates across board and that the coalition of groups has decided to ask the people of Anambra South to produce the next candidate to enable the contest go round since 1999.

Eze said the stakeholders resolved in the spirit of equity to open the window of governorship election for all the three senatorial zones as according to them, the three zones in Anambra have had their fair share at the governorship.

He, however, said the stakeholders insisted that the candidacy be zoned to Anambra South since the Central and the North have had their share, adding that Central was just lucky to retain it for the second term.

He added that the Old Aguata Union comprising the 45 communities in Aguata, Orumba North and Orumba South, and homes of Dr Alex Ekwueme, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Chief Emeka Sibeudu among other top politicians decided to endorse Godwin Ezeemo to become Governor of Anambra State hence they have set up a committee to reconcile with their brothers in Nnewi Zone led by Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah and Ihiala/Ekwusigo zone led by Dr Obinna Uzor.

Eze said the group known as Equity 2017 has set up a committee “to appeal to Dr Ifeanyi Ubah to rather support Mr Godwin Ezeemo instead of

Chief Willie Obiano who has failed the state.” He said the appeal became necessary because Ubah remained a pillar and whoever he supports will carry the day.

He said further that the committee would visit Dr Obinna Uzor to ensure Anambra South produces one candidate across all the political parties or the best in the zone to be able to win the 2017 guber as “Obiano has proved everybody wrong”.

Chief Shedrack Anakwue sited at the meeting refused to speak to our reporter as he said meeting was not yet over until it is over. “I don’t have anything to comment please. I was invited,” he said.
Earlier before their meeting, the Leaders of Thought and Traditional rulers of Aguata council area at St John’s Ekwulobia endorsed Ezeemo, Publisher of Orient Daily Newspaper and Industrialist, had traditional rulers in Aguata his local government pray for him and endorsed him as their sole candidate for the 2017 Governorship elections.

The traditional ruler of Ekwulobia , Igwe Emmanuel Onyeneke led others and the stakeholders where Ezeemo’s party PPA across the 21 local government areas in the state too endorsed him to fly their flag.

But Ezeemo said: “Listen to me, in Anambra State here, nothing is happening. In the State House of Assembly, they are like lames - they cannot walk or run; because before they were elected, they were given their resignation papers, that’s why they behave the way they do.
